A Shot Across The Bow

The Infinite Echo

The big news this week is the US Supreme Court overwhelmingly ruling against the Bush administration tactics and policies in regard to prisoners being held at Gitmo. The implications of the ruling strike what may very well prove to be the death knell for the administration of George Bush and his corrupt cronies.

The nations highest court ruled the president overstepped his legal authority, and in doing so, violated established national and international human rights laws, as well as the US Constitution and the Geneva accord. Tony Snow, White House resident spin monkey, attempted to portray the decision as nothing more than a difference of opinion between governing bodies, but such is obviously not the case. George Bush and his administration willfully, and with blatant malice, violated the law.

This is no isolated incident, mind you. The current administration is without question, the most corrupt administration in the history of our formerly great country. We are a nation adrift. We have failed our core values. The events of 9/11 should not be used to frighten ourselves into compromising human rights.
When that happens, and it already has, the terrorists win hands down.

If in fact, we as Americans are truly concerned about ‘justice’, we must suck it in and admit the enemy resides within. The terrorists cannot and will not destroy our nation, but we may very well destroy it ourselves. “Pride comes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall”. You’ll find that quote somewhere in Bible, and never have wiser words been spoken.

So tell me again why we shouldn’t impeach a president who’s pathos has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives? No really, I mean it. I want to see your mindless, self serving excuses fill my in-box. Help me to understand how you justify continued support for such lawless, unethical conduct.

Enough time has passed. Only an absolute fool would defend or support the transgressions of this administration. It is indeed, time to kick the trash to the curb. This is our country. It is time we take it back.

The Greatest Lies Ever Told

The Infinite Echo
B. Thomas Cooper

“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it.”

Edward R. Murrow

I concur.

It is neither noble, nor patriotic, to guard the door while the fox raids the hen-house. We are not obligated to participate in the transgressions of this administration, nor can we be compelled to ignore the ramifications.

Face the sinister facts, folks.
From birth, we have been indoctrinated into believing, and perpetrating some of the most absurd lies ever told. Mr. Murrow knew it, and so do you!
We are up to our collective necks, myself included, in nonsensical minutia. Buying into our own lies is nothing new in this country.

They seem harmless enough in the beginning. The lies, I mean. We know it is fundamentally inexcusable, and yet we persist in filling the minds of our ever so gullible offspring with crazy ideas about tooth fairies and stealth rabbits wielding colorful chicken eggs, but hey, no harm, no fowl, or so I’ve been told.

It never stops there, though. God bless good old’ Saint Nick. He’s supervisor to a staff of elves with seemingly endless access to UPC data. It is truly amazing what those elves are capable of achieving, but I digress.

From there, it’s onto pre-school, where our children are taught about George Washington’s encounter with the cherry tree in the same classroom where they read about Jack and the Bean-stock. This, having had their i-pods and cell-phones confiscated during recess.

So in this world of reality shows, driven by the likes of Paris Hilton and such, it is of little wonder we Americans have so much difficulty discerning what reality really is.

No wonder we were unable to locate any Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. No surprise about the absence of flower waiving Iraqi’s awaiting our troops, as predicted by administration hawks. No mobile weapons labs, no Yellow-Cake, no impending mushroom cloud…

Paul Wolfowitz stated in March 2003 that oil revenues in Iraq could bring between $50 billion and $100 billion over the course of the next two or three years....We are dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction and relatively soon.

Oh, and of course, no “End to Major Hostilities”, as we were assured, by the Commander In Chief himself! But then, in order for a lie to be effective, it need not be accepted as truth. It need only be accepted. Here lies the rub.

I can’t tell you the truth. I am not privy to the details. I can however, tell you what I little I know. For example:

The amount of US lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan have now surpassed the number of lives lost on 9/11.

The war is currently costing the American people upwards of ten billion dollars every month. Two and a half billion per week.

Apposing the policies of the Bush administration is not un-patriotic.

And for what it’s worth, I’m ashamed it has come to this.
